How the estimate works
- Start with income. Your gross monthly income is reduced by a 20% earned income deduction for work income, a standard deduction, and an excess shelter deduction for housing costs.
- Apply the 30% rule. Households are expected to put about 30% of their net income toward food.
- Subtract from the maximum. Your benefit is the maximum allotment for your household size minus that contribution.

Common questions
Is this the official amount I will get?
No. It is an estimate. Your local SNAP office makes the final determination, and some states apply their own adjustments on top of the federal baseline.
Which rules does the calculator use?
The federal FY2027 SNAP formula, effective October 1, 2026. Locations such as Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands have their own maximum amounts, so pick yours in the Location menu.
What counts as resources?
Cash and money in bank accounts. Your home, most retirement plans, and one vehicle are usually left out.
Why does it ask about age and disability?
Households with a member age 60 or older, or with a disability, are treated differently from other households. Tick the boxes that apply so the estimate follows the right rules.
What should I do after I get an estimate?
Apply through your state SNAP agency. Gather your ID, proof of address, income, and housing costs first.
